Some people get it…

Yesterday we had our monthly staff meeting at work. Each month someone is supposed to be bring “treats” or “a snack”.  Which makes it sound like we’re in daycare. I cringe when I hear those terms but I go with it.

I never expect my coworkers to bring items that are gluten free. Yes, there are two of us on the team that don’t eat gluten (Me being Celiac and another co-worker that just avoids it). But on a team of 13 people, I don’t expect people to cater to the two of us. In the past, folks have brought gf treats and it has been thoughtful and appreciated.

Yesterday, one of my coworkers brought treats and said she didn’t have time to get gf flour so I can’t eat what she baked. So she brought some Little Cuties for anyone who didn’t want the sugary, carb laden (and I admit, oh so yummy looking!) blueberry crumb bars. She said I should expect folks to bring things I can eat as I’m part of the team.

This coworker has been one of my favorites since day one. Positive energy. Always willing to lend a hand. Just a great attitude and fun to be around. And thoughtful like that. Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to eat the baked goods, she brought an alternative for me.

And to be honest, I enjoyed the fruit just as much as I would have the bars. I’ve been eating a bit too many carbs lately, so this was a nice change.

I remember a coworker years ago who gave me cookies from Starbucks and said to me, “I know you can’t eat these but Happy Holidays”. She didn’t get it.

I am really grateful for my co-workers who get it, and think of others.

  1. Love it when folks “get it”! Btw, you might want to capitalize Little Cuties, because I had to go back and re-read to understand what you were talking about. 😉 The “fruit” tipped me off though. 🙂 Of course, others might not speed read like I tend to read blogs and might “get it” immediately–pun intended.
